Autism Hearts Philippines conducts weekly art therapy sessions every Friday at Jose Zurbito Sr. Elementary School – Special Education Center for the benefit of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This program is one of the organization’s early intervention initiatives, designed to support the developmental, emotional, and social needs of children on the autism spectrum.

Art therapy provides a safe, structured, and supportive environment where children can express themselves through creative activities such as drawing, coloring, painting, and simple crafts. Many children with autism experience challenges in verbal communication and social interaction, and art offers a non-verbal and engaging way for them to communicate their thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

Each session follows a consistent and predictable routine to help children feel secure and comfortable. Activities are adapted to meet individual needs, with facilitators providing step-by-step guidance and encouragement. Through regular participation, children are supported in developing key skills such as fine motor coordination, attention and focus, emotional expression, sensory regulation, and social interaction.

The program also helps build confidence, encourages creativity, and promotes positive behavior in a nurturing and inclusive setting. By working closely with the school’s Special Education (SPED) program, the sessions complement classroom learning and therapeutic goals.

For parents and teachers, the program provides an opportunity to observe each child’s progress and learn simple strategies that can be continued at home and in school.
